Lemon

I want to talk at length about the imagination. Talk about how it has shaped the human species, how it is a catalyst for change. How the imagination is our most powerful gift. And, in due time, I will discuss all that here.

However first, I ask that you join me for a little imaginative adventure.

I ask that for the next paragragh you get comfortable, read a little slower, and more thoughtfully. Bring your mind’s eye and all of your senses to the words. Feel free to pause, and really soak the words in

Here we go:

Imagine a lemon, see its yellow rotund shape in your hand.

Look at its dimpled skin and feel its waxy texture.

Now, put the lemon on a chopping board and slice it into four wedges.

You can smell the tart, zesty, citric tingle. Your can feel your nose and eyes prickle.

Take one of the wedges and bite down hard on the flesh.

Feel it pop and burst in your mouth with sweet, sour, sharpness.

At this point many people find that their mouth has filled up with saliva. The body’s natural acid neutraliser arrived because of the imagination. We may feel goosebumps. We often have a visceral, physical reaction to the words.

This an experience any reader will know. So it’s not new or groundbreaking, just a fun exercise. A simple one that ties the imagination to the body- the place where it always begins
